Whilst sometimes confusing in name and often overlooked on the shop floor whilst Christmas is in full chaotic swing, ‘pre-collections’ (also called, Cruise, Resort or Holiday at this time of year) are becoming the new focus of considered purchasing. Reacting to a global customer and bridging the gap between the main collections, these pre pieces are a great way to find season appropriate items that can be worn straightaway with a suggestion of what’s to come in the main brands spring/summer and autumn/winter collections.
Saving the extreme looks that guarantee press for the later 'main' collections – designers choose to concentrate on a more wearable aesthetic whilst still maintaining the DNA of the main collection. The pre pieces often become the most sought after as you get the best of both worlds. In addition the resort/pre collections usually start to appear in stores mid-November and stay on the shop floor throughout the Christmas period without going into the Dec/Jan sales, so you can be confident your purchase won’t be reduced before you have even worn it.
Where once resort collections only offered something to the customer who was jetting off to sunny climates over the winter period, consisting of lightweight dresses and swim wear, the collections now have a rounded offer. This is why you will see plenty of garments with sleeves, a considered colour palette and a selection of fresh outerwear, which is great if you missed out on the first round of coats or knits which are sometimes delivered as early as August.
