Back to Basics - Seasonal Staples

Back to Basics - Seasonal Staples

It seems relevant to return to a back to basics approach for the autumn season, questioning the longevity of our purchases and their ability to offer the multiple demands we make on them.

Over the years Mercantile London has grown with and supported crafts people, artisans, small brands and individual makers who's agendas is to work in the right way for both people and planet, whilst offering product that transcends seasons, and offer true value.

With a seasonal refresh in mind we are returning to that notion for Autumn, we have taken our styling back to basics and given you a round up of those pieces that were chosen as great classic pieces but with a point of different, items that will work hard for you all season, and still give you the wear you want for the many seasons to come.

A Cosy Knit with a POD.

Go for originality this season, the District by French brand Ba&sh is comprised of soft and warm fibres so will do the job of keeping out the winter chill, whilst the two-tone colour, contrasting patterned stitching and pleats over the sleeves, give a subtle nod to the 80s, which gives it that edge and point of difference. Style with everything from every day denim to leather skirts.

The Season-less Winter Coat

Like the perfect white tee, a good winter coat is not as easy to find as you'd think, but the Vermont by Belgium brand Bellerose is a classic that will never go out of style.

A premium wool blend with deep green paid pattern combined with all the codes of the timeless trench coat, it has deep side pockets and matching self-tie belt.  Wear it open for a nonchalant look with wide leg trousers and trainers at the weekend, or closed and belted over formalwear for a more structured silhouette.

A staff favourite, from a brand that continues to get better and better each season, we can guarantee you'll enjoy it for years to come.

The Zoom Top

For something you probably don't already have but that creates an element of interest to a working from home comfy tee is the crafted tank top. With commitments to sustainable development goals, Baum Und Pferdgarten produce timeless and design-led collections which are full of unexpected playful contrasts resulting in covetable pieces in beautiful fabrics. Perfect for layering, adding warmth, and a hint of autumn to your outfit, the Coleen Fair Isle knitted vest is one such example.

Cold Weather Footwear

Finding a boot to cope with the British winter whilst still looking smart is quite a task, but the Vully by Danish brand Anonymous fits the bill. With its classic Scandinavian design with a twist, and a hallmark of comfort, lasting quality and strong traditional craftsmanship, their collections are crafted with care from great materials following traditional methods. The production takes place at small traditionally driven Portuguese and Spanish factories, and close genuine relationships with the craftsmen secure high focus on every detail.
